The human brain uses around 20% of the body’s energy despite only weighing a few pounds. Modern AI systems require huge data centers and massive electricity usage, yet the brain performs incredibly complex tasks using roughly the power of a dim lightbulb. Every second, it processes sensory information, controls movement, stores memories, and regulates emotions all at once.

Despite major advances in neuroscience, humans still do not fully understand consciousness or how the brain creates thought itself. The brain may be the only object in the universe capable of studying its own existence while still remaining partly mysterious. As neuroscience progresses, the human mind continues to appear less like a simple organ and more like an alien supercomputer humanity is only beginning to understand.
“If the human brain was so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple we couldn’t” -Emerson Pugh
